Broken Rules, Happy Employees

Wayne Lee Headshot

Now, today was a day like none before: I did something that is a no-no on job sites: We were so hot that the pool just called us into the water! Actually, the homeowner told me it was OK and that I should tell the crew to bring their suits. They were so glad to find out I gave in on one of my rules-it was 101 degrees today with a heat index of 115-just too hot.?

We started the new job today and it is going great; we have all the rough cutting done and should be ready to get the house done by Monday. If the guys need a pool break every day to work this fast, well, let's fill the pickup truck bed with water and call it a pool! It was good to see them enjoy the day and make so much happen in a short time.?

The only downside to the day was the big machine went nuts; the guide roller bearings went out. And, the edger pad took a hit by a nail and it is done. It was a costly day with tools, but it all has to be done and repaired. I called Greer to see if they have the parts, and yes, they are on the way. I am looking forward to Friday and the work. The job is going well, and the husband came in to look at it so far and was very happy.

We are still in a battle with the high RH, and I'm not sure what to do about floors that are cupping. I know that the wood needs to go through one heat and one cool season before I think about resanding, but what if it gets high again next year?
