See Your Jobs in a New Light

Wayne Lee Headshot

Sorry for not sharing a few words this week until now, but I have been working on something that has been on my mind for a long time. I like the flex pads used on toekick and combo edgers, but I did not like the size or cut on those units. So, with the help of a few friends, we have made a new style of pad for the Super 7R edger. I have used this on three jobs now and I like the cut, the scratch and the way it cuts a floor flat. I think the Super 7 is the best one on the market, but I feel very good that it just got better! If you have a new person working with the edger, this pad will allow them to learn faster and do a great job from the start! Hook-and-loop or bolt-on paper are also key for this pad change...I like it and if any of you would like to get one, please let me know.

One the other hand, we are working on the 1,800-foot job and got the stain and first coat on today... well, I should say Joey and Ray-Ray did. The floor looks great and flat, and thanks to the multi disc sander, we are getting a name for flat floors. Now this is a good and bad thing. I spoke to a flooring company and asked them point-blank what they charge to install, sand & finish. He said that he started out low, very low, but after looking at the numbers like he should have, he found out that he was not making money, and now he is working for the same price we work at. He said that he was working for a wage and that was it, so why work so hard for a wage that will not allow him to grow and make money? Great news! We are getting folks to see what it takes to make money and look at us as the leader in the market. I am not saying we are the best, but we are the ones that use the numbers to make a company grow, pay workers well and have the ducks in a row to make sure all taxes and insurance laws are followed.

I took Kim out for a nice supper tonight-27 years together! Poor woman, living with me for 27 years. I am happy to report we still have fun together and I still can make her laugh.

A good friend is in town, so we will get together and go look at a job in Paris, Tenn. Over the past few years Mickey Moore has helped me get our skills where they need to be. He has given us his insight of our jobs so we can adjust our skills for install or sand & finish. If you have a friend that has the skills to review your work with the right heart, I am here to say that it makes you get better and takes your skills to the next level ... try it and you will see your jobs in a new light.
