Silk Purse Out of a Sow's Ear

Wayne Lee Headshot

Boy does it seem odd to work in the high school...they seem so young. The floor is going great and with any luck we will have the repair ready for a seal coat today so that we can paint Thursday. We are just doing a repair at one end, so we do not have to paint any lines, just the end or out-of-bounds area. They have asked us to repair a few spots in the main floor, but again that is not that hard. The fingerblock flooring has moved over the years; in fact, this floor has been down for 40 years. It has been used hard; that we know for sure-so much that they are thinking of replacing it in 2011. We will be putting in a bid on that one-10,500 feet of flooring would be nice to do.

The lady with the stairs got a look at them yesterday and loved them. We made a silk purse out of a sow's ear in her mind, so all the work and workmanship paid off. Sprigg Lynn is dead on...workmanship will pay rewards. When you have a network of NWFA members to call on for help it is nice, but when you have friends you can count on that is the best of both worlds. From coast to coast the NWFA folks are willing to help and from coast to coast hardworking folks are always willing to give a hand up.

Troubleshooting article about the flexible subfloor was good, and I have seen the same thing here this year.

Our RH has been rough all summer long; in fact we ran into a builder at the hardware store and got to talking about the need for cross ventilation in the sunny South. He is so old school that the idea of not putting them in is like asking him to try a DVD over a VHS...remember how long ago that was? Well, I still call a DVD a tape, and my family just rolls their eyes. The good news is that we have a great source to show old-school folks like this that vents are not a must. I was checking out Craig DeWitt's website at www.rlcenginering.com, and it is a wonderful site. If you have not read it, you should go to it. It is the best site for information I have seen on this matter.
