Why I, Yes, Crawl Under the House

Wayne Lee Headshot

I was asked why I go so far on our estimates as to crawl under the house and walk around the house? In our area we have more homes build without any building codes. Most of them are built very well and, for the most part, they are done right, however, we have our jack-of-all, master-of-nothing builders, as well. The truth is some of the homes are just wrong, and if we take on a job we want to make sure it is not going to fail. Between the high RH we have and the jackleg work that is done, I want to make sure I am not the reason for any failure. Our work is done to the best of our skills and it is very important to me that our name stand well-as well as the floor they walk on. In my dreams, I would do 25 estimates a month in my market-we are small town, folks. That is why we take extra steps and it does reward us with the homeowners' confidence. I have not been called back to tell me if the job is ours yet, but time is still on my side (wish me luck).

The tile job that I was so unhappy with is done now and the reason for the trouble was me. The subfloor prep had to be done with a wet thinset but I like to work it thick and that is why the product did not bond the way it was meant to. My bad, but it is all better now, and this product save time and labor for us with floor prep, so I placed my second order for it today to do two more rooms. You've got to be ready to stop when it does not go right and, most of all, be ready to make it right. A good lesson and a better looking floor job.
