We asked WFB followers on Facebook and Instagram what coat of finish they’d apply if it were 1998, and the responses were overwhelming! Here’s just a sampler of what they said. You can read all the responses on Facebook here and on Instagram here:
Chris Straitiff
Fabulon.
Royal Floor Service
Back in 1998 in New York, ABSCO semi-gloss was trending.
Rob Johnson
Pacific Strong or Easy Street. Hoboken never had them both in stock at the same time.
Dodenhoff Hardwood Floors
DuraSeal polyurethane semi-gloss.
Clean Image Flooring
DuraSeal semi-gloss. 😂
Josh Brake
Glitsa.
Arbor Hardwood Co.
Synteko.
Mountain Home Hardwood Floors
Pacific Strong.
lipevolcom
Back in that time here in Rio we would only have the Synteko brand or the other one. Not many options. 😂
Amish Wood Floors
McCloskey gray bucket poly.
Royal Builders
Pacific Strong or Fabulon.
Doug Sandover
One coat of General Paint’s troweling sealer and two coats of DuraSeal. The sealer was lacquer based so it got you high as hell. Based in Vancouver, B.C.
Patrick J. Russell
Moisture-cured, but I was 13 then LOL.
Michael Villafuerte
Woodline with an occasional Pacific Strong coat here and there.
Steven Triplett Jr.
Woodline! Unless they’re a hippie, then we used that old foamy Pacific Strong LOL.
Jim Kramer
Pacific Strong with a T-bar or Lenmar with a 9-inch lammy when it was still made in Baltimore and cost $12/gallon.
Stephen Robinson
Street Shoe or Fabulon.
Ron Teljeur
Basic Coatings’ Street Shoe, probably satin.
Eddy Amped
Satin polyurethane oil stick and lamb’s wool application LOL.
Ryan Johnson
DuraSeal polyurethane or Basic Coatings’ water base. We’d use Glitsa if we absolutely had to apply Swedish.
Wesley Elliott
Water based Pacific Strong (probably semi gloss). Oil based Fabulon (again probably semi gloss).
Brad Moore
Same thing I use today, DuraSeal oil. Used something else for a short time and had nothing but problems. Stick to what works. Only it was with lambswool instead of T-bar.
Steve Heineken
ABSCO gloss with lamb’s 🐑 wool pads. 😎❤️🙌❤️😎
Frank Dello
I think we were using Last & Last still, gloss first two coats then satin with a 6-inch brush.
Robert Millette
I started in 1977. We used BAPCO oil with a 5-inch brush.
Shawn Strand
In ’98 I think we were using Bona Traffic or Basic Coatings’ Street Shoe.
Scott Strickland
Fabulon primer. Guaranteed high every time.
Doug LeClair
My boss at the time was all over the place with finishes. It’s anyone’s guess.
