Trick 0417 Four Sm

This issue's tip comes from Jonathan Peele of Wilmington, N.C.-based East Coast Innovations LLC:

Am17 Tot Author Jonathan Peele SmThis is the best applicator and brush holder system I have found that works—and you can make yourself, all from items that can be purchased at a big box or local hardware store for under $12. For the T-bar holder, you need one 2-inch PVC tube cut 2 inches longer than your applicator, one 2-inch plastic wing nut test plug and one 2-inch PVC cap. Attach the cap with PVC adhesive and allow it to dry. Simply slide your refill in when you've completed your coat and fill completely with water or mineral spirits 1 inch from the top. Insert the test plug and tighten until snug. It's amazing how long one refill lasts!

For the brush holder, you'll need one 4-inch PVC tube, two 4-inch caps, one eye bolt, two washers, two lock washers and one extra nut. Cut the tube 2 inches longer than your brush, drill a hole in the cap and tighten the nuts. For poly, add mineral spirits. Your brush will never set and will maintain its form since it doesn't touch the bottom.
