Good Income, But Bad Money

Craig DeWitt Headshot

Kim asked if last week's blog bit would be continued. I don't know. One thing I cannot do is violate the confidentiality of my clients. Without their permission, I cannot say much about an inspection or report. Even changing the names to protect the innocent is not enough. So I often walk a fine line with what I can say.

And I don't want to bore you with things like, well, I had another inspection in Charleston and covered the same 450 miles of road that I have covered hundreds of times before and stopped by the usual places to and fro, because I think you really want to hear about inspectors and inspections. So I will try to continue to squeak something worthwhile out of my inspections to talk about. But if I am wrong, please let me know.

I often review reports from other inspectors and consultants, as I did earlier this week for an upcoming court case. This report had some fundamental issues that will be very easy to pick apart in court. And in reality, those issues are why the case went to court in the first place. Legal stuff is good income, but bad money. I'd prefer the Canadian version, where the loser pays.

I have a background in research and adult education from working at Clemson University. When I see fundamental errors in reports, I want to do something about it… like do some training. And this time, instead of just wanting to, I've put together some programs. The first one is a FREE webinar called "Wood Moisture Meters - Level 1: For Floor Inspectors" on March 14th at 1 p.m. Eastern time. You can register for it here. Space is limited, though.

And I've put together several other webinars as well. They are listed at www.rlcengineering.com/training.html.

Now its back on the road to look at some new wood mixed with old wood. Think there might be a problem there?
