ANSI Seeks Applicants for EPA Formaldehyde Rule Accreditation Program

The American National Standards Institute is seeking applicants to provide accreditation services for the Environmental Protection Agency’s Formaldehyde Emissions Standards for Composite Wood Products rule.

Applicants must submit their information to ANSI before Oct. 13. Applications can be obtained by contacting Reinaldo Figueiredo. See the organization’s website for more information on the accreditation program.

The EPA’s rule, which applies to composite wood products such as engineered flooring, was published in the Federal Register in February. However, the rule’s compliance dates have been pushed back a number of times.

The date to comply with the rule’s emission standards, recordkeeping and labeling provisions moved from Dec. 12, 2017, to March 22, 2018. The date for import certification provisions moved from Dec. 12, 2018, to March 22, 2019. The date for laminated product producer provisions moved from Dec. 12, 2023, to March 22, 2024. And the conclusion of the transition period for CARB third-party certifiers moved from Dec. 12, 2018, to March 22, 2019.
