Anderson Hardwood Floors (Clinton, S.C.) has signed a licensing agreement with Flooring Industries (Dublin, Republic of Ireland) for the use of Unilin’s glueless Uniclic technology for its engineered and solid wood flooring.

The Mannington Mills (Salem, N.J.) High Point, N.C., branch has received the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) Safety Award from the North Carolina Department of Labor.

Foam Products Corp. (Calhoun, Ga.) has acquired a production facility in Erwin, Tenn., from Leggett and Platt (Carthage, Mo.). The 59,000-square-foot facility houses three coating lines capable of producing flooring up to 9 feet wide. It’s slated to be fully operational during the first quarter of 2007.

JG Architectural Supply (Linthicum, Md.) is a new hardwood flooring company importing and distributing exotic hardwood flooring from Bolivia and Paraguay. Moulding Solutions (Kingston, Ga.) has created a prefinished molding stocking program for its 50 top-selling SKUs to reduce shipment times. ProTeam (Boise, Idaho) raffled off three Super QuarterVacs at the 2006 ISSA Convention in Chicago. The winners were Patsy Knapp of Kenco Inc. (Barre, Vt.), Brent Martin of Janitor Equipment Company (Springfield, Ohio) and Debbie Vanderkoy of Secure Clean Building Services (Marengo, Ill.).

Centre Mills Antique Floors (Aspers, Penn.) has acquired the 150-year-old Felty Barn, which was located five miles from Gettysburg, Penn. The barn yielded boards with widths of 16 to 23 inches.

Richard-Marshall Fine Flooring Inc. (Los Angeles) has been selected by Esquire magazine for the Esquire House 360°, a model home demonstrating some of Esquire ’s style concepts. The company’s flooring was also selected by builder Vintage Communities (Irvine, Calif.) for four model homes in the Vintage at Hidden Park community in Agoura, Calif.

Columbia Flooring (Danville, Va.) has appointed Lance Rooney vice president of sales and marketing. Rooney oversees all of Columbia’s sales and marketing efforts throughout North America.

Virginia Abrasives (Petersburg, Va.) has expanded and reorganized its sales team. Allen Buck is based out of Los Angeles and is responsible for the West Coast and mountain states. Dave Stark continues to work with Buck in this territory. Terry Balke is based out of Milwaukee and is responsible for sales throughout the Midwest. By the Numbers
Wood flooring shipments for October 2006 totaled 34,805,000 square feet, according to NOFMA: The Wood Flooring Manufacturers Association. This is a 27 percent decrease compared with the same month last year and brings the year-to-date shipments to 413,746,000 square feet, a 6 percent decrease over the same time period in 2005. The NOFMA data is from hardwood flooring manufacturers in the U.S., corresponding to actual figures from a majority of the known producing units, plus projections representing units for which actual data is occasionally provided or not provided. The flooring shipments reported include solid prefinished and unfinished oak, beech, birch, maple, hickory/pecan, ash, cherry and walnut.

New residential sales of single-family houses in October 2006 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,004,000 units, according to the U. S. Commerce Department. This is 3.2 percent below the revised September rate of 1,037,000 units and is 25.4 percent below the October 2005 total of 1,346,000 units.
