April Construction Spending Rises

Annual spending on private residential construction rose 3.1 percent to $232.1 billion in April from March's $225.1-billion rate, according to the U.S. Commerce Department. Nonresidential private construction rose 0.5 percent to $250.8 billion in April from March's $249.6-billion rate. Including both public and private building, construction in the U.S. rose 0.4 percent to an annual rate of $765 billion in April from March's $762.1-billion rate.
