The NI-100 noise detector from
3M (St. Paul) has been recognized by Popular Science in its "
Best of What's New 2011" showcase. At a cost of $41, the NI-100 is equipped with an LED that lights up whenever noise reaches "the potentially harmful level of 85 dBA," alerting the user to put on hearing protection. It can clip to a shirt and the battery lasts 200 hours between charges.
