Mansion Hill Custom Floors (Newport, Ky.) has been named a distributor of Thermory heat-treaded wood, which is imported exclusively by Attica Millwork Inc. (Attica, N.Y.). Mansion Hill Custom Floors will distribute Thermory in the Cincinnati area. The company's owners, Jeff Rose and Bill Walz, can be reached at (859) 581-1800.

The NI-100 noise detector from 3M (St. Paul) has been recognized by Popular Science in its "Best of What's New 2011" showcase. At a cost of $41, the NI-100 is equipped with an LED that lights up whenever noise reaches "the potentially harmful level of 85 dBA," alerting the user to put on hearing protection. It can clip to a shirt and the battery lasts 200 hours between charges.

Pro-Populus, the European poplar association, elected Nicoletta Azzi its new president during a general assembly in Brussels on Dec. 7. Azzi has taken the place of Bernard Mourlan, the group's president since its inception three years ago.

The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) named New York and San Francisco as recipients of the World Green Building Council's Government Leadership Awards for Excellence in City Policy for Green Building. The announcement was made Monday during the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Durban, South Africa.
