W•D Flooring Adds Workers and Products, Boosts Production

W•D Flooring recently announced it has added workers and expanded production at its plant in Laona, Wis., and that it will unveil engineered wood flooring products in 2013.

The company has hired 58 new workers in an effort to expand unfinished solid plank production by 50 percent. The company also intends to expand its European-influenced prefinished flooring options in 2013.

Key personnel additions include naming Jim Duffey manager of distribution sales; before joining W•D, Duffey was national sales manager at Boen. Also, the company promoted Heidi Piton from office manager to inside sales manager. Duffey and Piton will report to W•D's Jon Norris, vice president of sales. And in its Customer Service department, W•D has added Lindy Lorbiecki as a customer service rep.

On its forthcoming engineered wood flooring products, Peter Connor, president of W•D, said: "Let's be clear: we are not doing this to 'me too' it-that is not a business plan. We are doing this because there are certain applications where engineered is just the best way to go. It depends almost exclusively on job-site conditions. The industry is getting wider and wider and longer and longer."

The company's growth comes on the heels of a $750,000 business loan from the Wisconsin Department of Commerce, which W•D secured this summer.
