Distributor J.J. Haines & Co. (Glen Burnie, Md.) recently purchased Allied Products (Baltimore) for an undisclosed amount. Haines is keeping all of Allied Products' branches open and retaining all of its 44 employees.
The transaction was completed Jan. 1 and announced Thursday. Allied Products distributes flooring supplies and sundries through 11 locations servicing Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, Delaware, West Virginia, portions of New Jersey and Washington, D.C. Allied Products is 72 years old and has annual sales revenue in excess of $10 million.
"Allied will be run as a separate business with only back-office activities integrated," Fred Reitz, vice president of J.J. Haines, said. "In this way we keep the integrity of the suppliers' business methods of doing business and cause little change for Allied Products' customers and suppliers. Over time we will invest in Allied and make sensible improvements."
Reitz will act as the liaison between J.J. Haines, a privately held company, and Allied Products. Allied Products' management comprises Bob Davison, the company's former primary owner; Bob Davison's business partner, Ken Wells; and Bob Davison's son, Eric Davison.
"All of us at Allied Products will have to work together with the Haines team to accomplish our growth goal and improvements," said Bob Davisin. "We don't expect everything to change. We will figure out what are the most important things to improve and how best to improve over time."
