Workcamp Parquet’s 2025 project restoring the historic parquet wood floors of the Esterházy Palace in Eisenstadt, Austria, concluded last week, welcoming 22 selected specialists from 11 countries.
“Workcamp Parquet creates a unique space for the meeting of top restorers and the passing on of these traditional craft techniques to future generations,” co-organizer of the project, Astrid Huber, said in a statement. “The success of this year's edition, which brought together experts from Europe, Australia and North America, was exceptional.”
Under the guidance of an international team of lecturers, participants underwent intensive practical training, including working with original historic parquet pieces from Schloss Esterházy.
In addition to restoring the palace’s floors, participants attended professional seminars on topics of wood floor cleaning, animal glues, restoration documentation and the history of parquet floors during the Austro-Hungarian period.
The Workcamp Parquet is an annual project started by wood floor master René Caran from the Czech Republic. It brings together wood flooring masters from around the world to restore historic wood floors.
