A fire at J. Ho Hardwood Flooring (Medford, Mass.) on May 17 started after sawdust left in a vacuum inside a company van in the business' garage spontaneously combusted, according to Wicked Local.
The van also contained hardwood flooring and flammable chemicals. Five vans were parked in the garage and several were discovered on fire when firefighters arrived on the scene. Oily rags contributed to the fire's spread, a spokesperson for the state’s Department of Fire Services told the news site.
“They’re badly burned so we don’t know which of the vans started it,” Medford Deputy Fire Chief Richard Colorusso told Wicked Local. “It spread through the structure, but we got it in time. It didn’t spread to the adjacent building.”
The chief added that fire crews responded to a smaller fire at the same location two months before.
Updated May 23 to clarify the source of the fire.
