City Floor Supply (King of Prussia, Pa.) and its partners and vendors donated materials, time and labor to refurbish the gym floor at the Harrowgate Police Athletic League Center in North Philadelphia.
The center was reopened after years of disuse in 2011 with funding that went toward computers, after-school activities and sports leagues. While the center thrived, its outdated linoleum basketball court began disintegrating. The center’s director secured money from the city and then contacted the carpenter’s union, which in turn reached out to others in the industry and asked them to help.
Fred Beach, City Floor Supply’s east territory sales manager, helped coordinate and execute the project. The company also reached out to Bona US (Aurora, Colo.), which donated court line paint, finish and sealer.
“We were grateful for the opportunity to get involved in the gym renovation project. We know how hard the Philadelphia Police Department works on behalf of the kids in the city,” said Mike Glavin, City Floor Supply owner. “To see the police working within the community to build mutually beneficial relationships with the local kids, parents, and volunteers, is truly inspiring.”
