The government in Mozambique will consider a bill that would ban exports of unprocessed logs, regardless of species, according to a Global Wood Markets report.
The report said previous efforts have sought to stop exports of specific types of wood species, but this is the first blanket ban.
Mozambique is currently losing 220,000 hectares of forest per year due to logging, uncontrolled bush fires and building developments, according to Global Wood Markets.
