The increase included an annual gain of 2.6 percent to 688.8 million square feet in 2015 in the 17 countries covered by the European Federation of the Parquet Industry. Non-member EU countries saw an annual production gain of 3.6 percent to 157.1 million square feet in 2015, the report said.
Production is still 20 percent below the peak of 1,058.0 million square feet in 2007, according to Fordaq.
Seventy-eight percent of wood flooring manufactured in Europe in 2015 was made of oak, up from 60 percent in 2008. Oak was followed by ash, 5.6 percent of production; beech, 3.8 percent; and walnut, 1.4 percent.
Engineered flooring accounted for 84 percent of wood flooring manufactured in Europe in 2015, while solid flooring was 14 percent of production, the report said.
