Moosewood Millwork Ceases Floor Manufacturing Operations

Moosewood Millwork LLC (Ashland, Maine) ceased floor manufacturing operations Oct. 16, according to John McNulty, the president of The Seven Islands Company, which owns the mill.

The mill closed its wood flooring operations due to heightened competition in the overall wood flooring market, McNulty said. The full-time staff of 18 will be reduced, although they can apply for jobs in other mill operations owned by The Seven Islands Company.

“It’s tough on the community,” McNulty said. “We appreciate that and we’ll try to make it as painless as possible.”

While no more wood flooring will come from Moosewood, McNulty said he expects to continue to use the facility’s existing capacity for ripping and surfacing wood products, as well as its dry kiln, to produce other products in the future.
