Construction Spending Flat At $1.2 Trillion in January

Total construction in the U.S. showed almost no movement in January, registering at $1,262.8 billion, compared with $1,262.7 billion in December, a change of 0.001 percent.

Total private construction spending in January dropped 0.5 percent from December, from $967.9 billion to $962.7 billion, but was up 1.7 percent from January 2017. Residential construction spending rose 0.3 percent from December and was up 4.2 percent compared with January 2017.

Overall commercial real estate construction spending fell 1.3 percent since December and was down 2.7 percent from January 2017.

Total state and federal government construction spending increased 1.8 percent in January.
