More than 200 veterans have expressed interest in the International Standards and Training Alliance’s (INSTALL) Helmets to Hardhats (H2H) Program since it launched in 2016.
The career placement program calls on INSTALL contractors to sponsor veterans for INSTALL apprenticeships, with the goal of helping military service members transition back into civilian life with a new profession, and also to bring more skilled workers into the floor covering industry.
“We are committed to helping vets succeed in all stages of the program, from application to completion,” INSTALL Executive Director John McGrath Jr. said in a statement. “We hope to build on our success by continuing to open doors for vets through our partnership with the H2H program and contractors.”
INSTALL contractors who commit to sponsoring a veteran also commit to hiring him or her following completion of the INSTALL apprenticeship.
Roderick Deas is a veteran currently in the program, having served in the army before being sponsored for the INSTALL apprenticeship by contractor Circle Floors Inc.
“The hands-on training I receive at school and in the field is incredibly comprehensive,” Deas said in a statement. “First INSTALL helps us understand how to properly install flooring in the classroom; this is followed by instructor demonstrations, and then you get to try it for yourself.”
