The Home Depot has long been concerned about whether millennials would stray from traditional homeownership, but a millennial focus group initiative is giving the home improvement company hope, Business Insider reports.
After concerns that millennials would favor apartments over traditional homes, Home Depot began an internship program five years ago that gauged millennials on what they wanted from the store and whether they planned to purchase homes. The answers they have begun getting from older millennials involved in the program are quelling the company’s worst fears.
"The older millennials now are entering that home ownership in similar penetrations … maybe not as much as the baby boomers, but still much more on the norm than what we were seeing in 2010," Home Depot Merchandising EVP Ted Decker told Business Insider. "The percentage that want to own a home or have an aspiration to own a home, all those are back trending norm."
To meet millennial expectations, the company is also planning to expand its décor products offerings, according to Business Insider.
