WFB Briefs: Hardwood Flooring Imports Up Year-Over-Year; Wood Exports From Vietnam; PID’s Sustainability Partnership

U.S. hardwood flooring imports increased 25% year-over-year in October, largely due to increases in imports from Indonesia and Malaysia, ITTO reported. Compared with September, however, hardwood flooring imports in the U.S. dropped 7%, the second consecutive month of decline.

Exports of wood and wood products from Vietnam increased 20.9% month-over-month in November, growing to a value of $1.15 billion, ITTO reported. However, compared with November 2020, exports were down 7%. “At the current growth rate it is estimated that exports of wood and wood products will reach $14.3 billion in 2021, up 14% compared to 2020 and completing 98.7% of the target set for the year,” the report stated.

As part of its Green Initiative, PID Floors (New York City) partnered with Sustainable Harvest International (SHI) in an effort to educate farmers in Central America, curb deforestation and reverse climate change, the company announced. The company said it has aided the SHI Honduras team in planting 2,000 trees.
