‘Very Sudden and Unfortunate’: Allegheny Wood Products Closure Impacts 850 Jobs

After 50 years in operation, Allegheny Wood Products (Petersburg, W.Va.) has ceased operations, according to multiple news outlets.

The closure, which includes eight locations across West Virginia, impacts 850 jobs, 12WBOY reported.

State Economic Development Secretary Mitch Carmichael told WV MetroNews the closure was “very sudden and unfortunate.” The owners were reportedly attempting to sell the company but the sale recently fell through. Employees were notified last Thursday night and Friday, according to WV MetroNews.

The company’s website and social media have been deactivated. The company was a source for a large portion of materials at AHF Products’ hardwood flooring plant in Beverly, W.Va., WDTV reported.
