The national construction unemployment rate was 3.3% in June, down 0.3% from June 2023, according to the Associated Builders and Contractors’ analysis of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data.
ABC reported 33 states had lower unemployment rates since last year, while two states’ rates were unchanged and 15 states had higher rates.
Alaska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and Oregon each had the lowest not seasonally adjusted construction unemployment rates in June.
Meanwhile, Ohio, New Mexico, Illinois, New Jersey and Rhode Island experienced the highest unemployment rates in June, according to the ABC report.
“Healthy economic growth and the prospect of lower interest rates in coming months, along with federal spending on infrastructure, have bolstered construction activity and employment,” Chief Economist of Markstein Advisors Bernard Markstein said in a statement. “As projects move forward, construction companies are hiring. The anticipation of future construction projects provides additional incentive to hire and train construction workers.”
