Condo Resident Who Was Denied Wood Floors Gets Discrimination Settlement

A condo association in New Jersey has settled with a resident who filed a disability discrimination complaint after she was prevented from removing her carpet to install hardwood flooring in her condo, according to AP.

The resident had requested to tear out her condo’s carpet in October 2016 due to allergies. She had included in her request a letter from her physician stating that hardwood flooring would help relieve her allergy symptoms. Her downstairs neighbor also wrote a letter to the condo association stating that she had no objections to the hardwood flooring, but the request was still denied by the association.

The resident will now receive $12,500 in the settlement and will also be allowed to install hardwood floors in the condo.
