The construction industry will need to hire 430,000 more workers in 2021 than were employed in 2020 in order to meet increasing construction demand, according to an analysis by the Associated Builders and Contractors.
Construction spending is expected to reach $1.45 trillion this year, a 1.3% uptick from 2020, increasing employment demand from the actual employment of 7.8 million in 2020.
“A higher growth rate scenario could boost the number of additional construction workers needed in 2021 to nearly 1 million,” ABC stated.
In 2020, non-adjusted construction spending increased 4.8% even as employment dropped by 6.3%, according to ABC.
