To be compliant with the EPA’s Renovation, Repair and Painting rule, contractors disturbing more than 6 square feet of any coated surface in a pre-1978 home or child-occupied facility must be certified under the EPA’s accredited training. The rule intends to protect occupants from lead poisoning. Contrary to a common misconception in the wood flooring industry, this rule applies to wood flooring in addition to baseboards.
