60-grit Hummel; 60 hardplate Trio; 60, 80, 100 Trio with donuts; then 120 mesh on the Trio. Overkill? Maybe. But it’s the way we like to do it. Then water-pop, even with natural.
Aaron Hall
It depends on the mill and general flatness of it installed. If fairly flat with not too much overwood: 50-grit Red Heat on the Hummel, 60 Red Heat on the Power Drive with steel plates. Then 100 Red Heat with no plates on the Power Drive and send it.
Sweetwood Flooring
60 on the Galaxy 2000; 60 hardplate on the Trio; 60 and 80 with donuts on the Trio; 100 and 120 MeshPower with solid pads on the Trio. Vacuuming between each pass.
Ricky Coning
60 Hummel at 10 degrees, 60 on edges with the Hyper Grinder, 80 on the whole floor with the Hyper Grinder, Festool 100, 120 Hyper Grinder.
Casey Ditsworth
50 or 60 on a 20–30 degree angle, fill, 80 on a 5–10 degree angle. 100 planetary, edge 100, 100–120 mesh/screen (and this is overkill for natural).
Jim Hyde
50 and 80 on the Power Drive, 60 edges with 5-inch Mirka, finish with 100 on the Power Drive. This is on quality milled flooring. If it’s rough with a lot of overwood, I’ll 50 on the belt sander first, then 80 and 100 on the Power Drive.

50 used paper cross cut, 50 new paper straight. Norton Blue Fire. 80 edge Bona green, 80 HG Bona blue. Palm sand 60 Maverick abrasives purple. 100 Hyper Grinder Bona blue.
Devan Hale
36 green, 60 green, 80 blue, 100 black and 120 black Bona paper followed by 120 Norton mesh screen on a Power Drive. Then 60, 80, 100 Red Heat with the edger and 120 Festool to clean up the edges. That or 40 on the drum, 60 green, 80 blue, 100 black, then 120 black and final with 120 Norton mesh.
Erik Livas
60 on the Hummel, edge 80, and 80 on Hyper Grinder.
Cardona Flooring
60 and 80 on the big machine, edges to match. Final cut with 120 on the Power Drive to eliminate drum lines and refine the scratch. Detail, vacuum, tack.

Power Drive with plates and weights 40/50 (depending on overwood), 60/80 (no plates/one weight), 100 (quick pass, no weight) (all Red Heat). Then final pass with interface pads and Bona Net 120 ceramic screens. Edges I’ll hit with 100 Red Heat, then 120 screen with the 5-inch Rotex using a raking light. Probably overkill for natural, but I do it anyway.
