Dan Zimmerman of Buford, Ga.-based Solid Oak Floors Inc. recalls a funny incident that happened while his crew was working for a local TV weatherman. The crew was busy applying the final coat of finish at his home; they had finished coating the stairs to the second level and were about to finish the foyer when the weatherman's wife pulled in the driveway. Her husband had apparently had a late night and was still upstairs sleeping when he was supposed to be at the station. His wife couldn't go up the just-coated stairs, and repeated yelling up the stairs yielded no results. Finally, she called him on her cell phone, and he woke up. Fortunately, there was a ladder on site, and Zimmerman's crew was able to extend it up past the handrail to allow for a hasty retreat. They helped him down the ladder with his suit, briefcase and shoes, all in time for him to get to the station for the evening broadcast. "Thank God for cell phones or the forecast could have turned ugly in a hurry," Zimmerman quips.
