When Kieren Collins saw this pine floor for the first time, he was presented with a peculiar sight: "The previous homeowner stuck insulation tape over every gap. They also screwed every board down," he explains. The homeowner had reached out to Collins after seeing that his company, Wood Floors of Hampshire in Farnborough, U.K., specializes in restoration work. "They desperately wanted to save the original floor, but at the same time keep it a practical floor to live on with dogs and children," he says. The Wood Floors of Hampshire crew spent most of a day hand-scraping all the tape, then sunk all the screws and cleaned the floor. Next, they hammered reclaimed pine wedges into all the gaps, gluing them and leaving the wedges to dry for a day before trimming the excess the next day. With that done, they sanded with 24-, 40-, 60- and 80-grit before buffing and coating with three coats of Loba Viva waterborne finish with added whitener for a "neutral and modern look."
