Mohawk's Sales Up 5.5% to $1.5 Billion in Q1

Mohawk Industries (Dallas) reported first quarter net sales were $1.5 billion, 5.5 percent above the same period the year before. Gross profit was up to $377 million compared with $359 million in 2012.

Mohawk's Unilin segment, which includes wood and laminate flooring, wood panels, and roofing, saw net sales reach $404 million in the first quarter. This is up from $337 million in the first quarter of 2012.

The company reported that its wood flooring products are growing with performance features such as Scotchgard and ArmorMax that provide easy maintenance and wear resistance and new products with scraped surfaces that create fashionable distressed looks. Earlier this year, the company announced another price increase of 10 percent for wood flooring to offset rising lumber costs that will take effect in late May.
