Goodwin Heart Pine Company (Micanopy, Fla.) donated flooring from three of its product lines to the renovation of the home of the University of Florida’s president.
Inside the 6,000-square-foot mansion are floors from Goodwin’s River-Recovered Vertical Heart Pine, Legacy Vertical Heart Pine and Curly Heart Pine product lines.
Most of the Goodwin products in the president’s campus-provided home, officially called the Dasburg House, come from logs in Florida’s Suwannee River.
“It brings the natural environment of North Central Florida into the home and contributes to the unique character and overall warmth of the interiors,” said project architect Apryl Ponikvar in a statement. “We were pleased to find a local source that not only custom-milled to our specifications, but worked alongside us from design through construction completion."
The flooring appears in the president’s study, the spouse’s study, the second-floor landing, the spiral stairs and the elevator.
New UF President Kent Fuchs and his wife, Linda, will be the first to move into the residence, which opened this week.
