More than 150 guests attended a ceremony Friday dedicating the first United States plant for Uzin Utz Manufacturing North America Inc. The new facility joins UFloor Systems Inc., based in Aurora, Colo., as the second subsidiary of Uzin Utz AG in the U.S.
The plant will produce approximately 25,000 tons of floor leveling and patching compounds for the North American market. It will also, by 2018, produce 15,000 tons of tile adhesive. Currently 15 employees work at the facility, and more skilled workers will follow.
The building, planned by Nutec Design Associates in York, Pa., has a total floor space of 64,000 square feet. The production area encompasses 16,000 square feet, while the office space for administration is around 8,000 square feet. The facility cost a little more than $13.5 million.
“After a year of construction, we are proud to announce the completion of our first production plant in America,” said Dr. H. Werner Utz, CEO of Uzin Utz AG, in a statement.
“With this second location in the northeastern U.S., we can better cater to the needs of our customers,” said Philipp Utz, President of Uzin Utz Manufacturing North America Inc, in a statement. “Short delivery times, good raw material availability and a highly-qualified work force were just some of the key factors for selecting Dover for this new plant location. The proximity to our customers in America and the fast-growing Canadian market, good transportation hubs and a modern infrastructure also played a role with this strategic decision.”
The building also has a training center for contractor customers.
“Since 2009, training has always taken place in our Colorado headquarters. We now are looking forward to the addition of this training facility for customers on the east coast,” Philipp Utz added.
