BuildDirect (Vancouver, British Columbia) is incentivizing hard work with a big perk: unlimited vacation time.
The online retailer of flooring and other building construction materials launched the policy mid-January as a way to reward its productive employees and attract new talent.
“One of our values is enjoying the journey, how we get to our destination matters as much as where we arrive,” CEO Jeff Booth told the Vancouver Sun. “This whole unlimited vacation fits our values, it fits our culture.”
The policy comes with limitations—work must be completed and the employees’ vacation plans must fit within the demands of their respective departments—but Booth said that, in general, he wants to give BuildDirect employees a lot of latitude.
The maximum time period that an employee could take off at one time is four weeks, but there is no limit to how many days are taken per year, according to the Vancouver Sun.
