The eco-chic H2Hotel in Sonoma County, Calif., wanted a floor that fit in with the facilities principle of sustainability. They found a green floor in more ways than one.
The flooring is not only reclaimed from its previous life as a basketball court, it still wears its original green patina proudly. The painted boards were left intact and staggered throughout the room. It’s a dynamic environment, said H2Hotel spokesperson Lauren Jennings.
“We wanted an active energetic space, and when our contractor discovered this repurposed wood available from a school gym, we thought it was the perfect lineage,” she said.
The room required 1,200 square feet of basketball court flooring. The hotel sourced the wood from “industrial thrift store” RepurposedMaterials. The business strives to find a second life for products that differs from their first.
“Most would have thrown the boards out,” founder Damon Carson wrote about the project in a RepurposedMaterials newsletter. “But not them!”
