The National Wood Flooring Association held an Intermediate Installation school in Mexico City, June 28–30, and 181 students attended—the largest school ever, according to NWFA Vice President of Education and Certification Brett Miller.
The school, NWFA’s first in Mexico, was a resounding success, said Jon Namba of Namba Services Inc. (Salt Lake City), one of the lead instructors.
“This was probably the best event that I've been on. The attendees were so hungry for knowledge and had such a passion for learning,” he said. “With having that many students in the area we had, there was not a single issue with safety. We accomplished everything we set out to do.”
The students installed 2,250 square feet of flooring during the three-day class, according to Bostik Inc. (Wauwatosa, Wis.), the event’s host and sponsor.
The students' floor layouts went beyond what he typically sees at schools, Namba said, "Almost every group decided on some sort of creative design."
He added the students' pursuit of knowledge and the passion each brought to the school made a large impression.Â
The school was a member-sponsored event, which meant Bostik and its employees, including Daniel Sanchez, national sales manager for Bostik Mexico, played a large role in organizing and executing the event.Â
"It couldn’t have happened without the support of the Bostik team putting in a lot of hours alongside the instructors to set up the event," Namba said.Â
More information about member-sponsored schools is available on NWFA's website.
The second lead instructor, Leonard Hall of Endurance Floor (West Park, Fla.), wrote about the experience on the HF Contractor Blog.
