Mohawk Industries (Dallas) is expanding its apprenticeship program to 50 people thanks to funding from state and federal government, according to The Times Free Press.
Currently, Mohawk employs 16 full-time apprentices and three pre-apprentices.
The program pays apprentices for work done at the company and time spent studying. Upon completion, participants choose between acquiring an apprenticeship certification or completing additional schoolwork to earn an associate’s degree in mechatronics.
"[A]n apprenticeship program provides career advancement opportunities for individuals who are already employed at the company," Linda McEntire, director of technical training, told The Times Free Press.
