JTD Hardwood Floors (Hockessin, Del.) founder John Dougherty passed away at the age of 49 due to complications from a stroke.
Dougherty was a master craftsman of hardwood flooring, his obituary said. He began his career in the industry working for Charles G. Taylor and Sons in 1987. He started JTD Hardwood Floors in 2004.
Dougherty was known as “Uncle John” to everyone and, when someone was in need, the first one to the rescue, the obituary said.
Friend and fellow wood flooring industry professional Jeff LaShomb of Delaware’s Finest Hardwood Floors said this about Dougherty in an email:
" I owe my entire career from this guy. From day one he taught me everything that I know about hardwood floors, the ins and outs. If I was a very rich man, half of everything that I have belongs to him. Because without him there will be no me in the hardwood floor business.”
