FSC Introduces New Approach to Misleading and False Claims

The Forest Stewardship Council introduced a series of strategies to address misleading and false claims in its system.

The changes include rapid transaction audits by Accredited Services International; ASI-initiated investigations conducted by certification bodies; a process for stakeholders to submit complaints about false claims; and randomized mandatory fiber testing of wood products.

“Millions of consumers and thousands of businesses trust the FSC label, and we must do what we can to ensure that we maintain that trust,” said Kim Carstensen, director general of FSC, in a statement.
