Ghana had resorted to a ban after illegal harvesting of the species grew “out of hand” and rosewood was under threat of extinction, GWMI said.
The lifting of the ban will enable companies with rosewood shipments waiting at the ports and in depots across the country to clear their inventory. Companies with rosewood products harvested without approval will pay penalties before they can export their products.
