AR App Promises to Generate Floor Plans Without a Tape Measure

Generate Floor Plans Without Manually Measuring Using New Augmented-Reality App

A new app uses augmented reality to eliminate one of the first steps of a wood floor project—manually measuring and documenting room dimensions.

PLNAR, created by Austin, Texas-based SmartPicture Technologies, allows users to measure dimensions by simply moving their smartphone’s camera around the perimeter of a room. The app takes the data and generates a digital project report that includes a floor plan, visuals and material details.

“With PLNAR, we’ve built an AR experience that makes it easy for the individual consumer to virtually measure any room with nothing more than an iPhone, while also giving flooring companies, insurance, interior design and home renovation professionals an interactive tool to increase efficiency and revenue,” said CEO Andy Greff.

The app is available for download in the Apple App Store.
