NAHB Denounce Trump’s New Steel, Aluminum Tariffs

The National Association of Home Builders spoke out against new tariffs imposed on steel and aluminum imports by President Trump last week.

NAHB Chair Randy Noel called the tariffs of 25 percent on steel and 10 percent on aluminum “unfortunate.”

“These tariffs will translate into higher costs for consumers and U.S. businesses that use these products, including home builders,” Noel said in a statement.

The new tariffs also come at a particularly bad time, according to Noel, as builders are already faced with 20 percent tariffs on Canadian softwood lumber, with prices already nearing record highs.

“We hope the administration will work quickly to resolve these trade disputes regarding lumber and steel so that businesses and consumers have access to an adequate supply at a fair market price,” Noel said.
