When he’s not competing in national-level figure skating competitions, 23-year-old Jacob Nussle of Linden, Mich., installs hardwood flooring, according to a feature in Hometown Life.

Nussle, who reportedly works with a local wood flooring contractor, glided into headlines recently when he and his figure skating partner, Cora DeWyre, nabbed a spot in the Junior Pairs competition at the 2019 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Detroit Jan. 18–27. It was the pair’s fourth time competing at nationals.

Installing wood flooring and figure skating may have more in common than one might initially think, as Nussle describes the hard work and precision required of his passion.

“It’s like working a full-time job,” he told Hometown Life. “It’s more than that. You’ve got to skate every day, obviously, even on the weekends.”

Nussle and DeWyre, who was coming off a recent skating injury, competed Jan. 23–24 during the championships and came in ninth place.
