An algorithm used by Zillow, the online real estate database, can now detect hardwood flooring in images of listed homes and adjust their home price estimates accordingly, the Oregonian reports.
The algorithm, which is also programed to detect large windows and granite countertops, identifies pixel patterns in pictures and assigns an adjusted value accordingly, according to the report.
The site’s home pricing estimates are also derived from property records and sales of similar homes, and the company claims half of its estimates are within 2% of a home’s final selling price.
