The knee pad company made the transition in response to the worldwide shortages of PPE products available to medical professionals since the COVID-19 outbreak, and was able to use its current inventory of parts for its Model 0714/0714E custom fit and AP16 All Purpose Kneepads to create the face shields.
“After securing a large batch of Lexan Polycarbonate sheets, I knew we had everything we needed to get started right away on a superior, reusable face shield,” ProKnee Founder Lee Richards said in a statement. The company is also using its Smartlock buckle for the adjustable straps fitted to the 8-inch-long face shield.
It took three days for the company to turn around its production lines to manufacture the face shields, the first prototype of which was finalized April 6. Orders began flowing in from across the state of Maine the following day, the company said.
Sample requests, inquiries and orders of the face shields can be made to Jay Abbott via email.
