A flooring supply store in Bridgeport, Conn., was damaged when a two-alarm fire broke out after 10 p.m. on Monday, engulfing the building in flames, News 12 Brooklyn reported.
Nearby businesses were evacuated, and fire crews remained on the scene for three hours.
The building, owned by King Floor Supplies 2, was stocked with hardwood flooring and adhesives. Firefighters arriving on the scene called for backup due to the presence of the adhesives.
“The adhesives, when they burn, they off-gas, and those off-gasses are toxic, so there was a major air quality concern so we needed additional resources here just to make sure that we had a safety officer here to monitor the air and make sure everyone was using proper PPE while we were fighting the fire,” a fire official told News 12.
The flooring business was closed at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries. The cause of the fire has yet to be reported.
Many of the supplies in the building were damaged, and the store is currently closed indefinitely, according to the report.
The owner of the store has another location and will continue operations there.
