Mohawk Industries’ former Global Chief Information Officer Jana Kanyadan has been sentenced to seven and a half years in federal prison for defrauding Mohawk out of nearly $1.9 million.
Along with his prison sentence, Kanyadan is ordered to pay a $250,000 fine and $985,166.66 in restitution.
In 2019, Mohawk launched a multi-year IT project that required outsourced work to IT consulting firms. Kanyadan organized and controlled a company called Meta Technology Platforms LLC and used his position to direct Mohawk’s outsourced IT work to the firm without disclosing his involvement.
Between May and October 2022, Meta Tech submitted invoices to Mohawk totaling over $3 million. These invoices falsely claimed payment for services never performed and software never provided. Mohawk paid Meta Tech nearly $1.86 million of Meta Tech’s invoices.
