The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) increased the number of inspections conducted by 4.3% in fiscal 2019, to 33,401.
The year marks the most inspections conducted by OSHA since fiscal 2015, when it conducted 35,820.
OSHA also released its most cited violations in fiscal 2019, with fall protection by far the most cited violation, with 6,010 citations, according to the National Safety Council. Fall protection violations were followed by:
Hazard communication (3,671 citations)
Scaffolding (2,813)
Lockout/tagout (2,606)
Respiratory protection (2,450)
Ladders (2,345)
Powered industrial trucks (2,093)
Machine guarding (1,743)
Eye and face protection (1,411).
