This issue’s tip comes from Leroy Brookens at Springfield, Ill.-based Brookens Wood Floors Inc.:
There are certain things that are going to get in our way on a job —but customers don’t want to remove them. Internet routers are one, and curtains are another. It’s understandable that it’s a pain for the customers to take them down, but we need them protected and out of the way while we’re installing, sanding and finishing. Many wood flooring pros will just tie the curtains into knots to get them up off the floor, but that puts wrinkles in them that the customers will have to deal with later. I keep hangers in the van for the curtains—you can just fold the ends of the curtains up over the hanger neatly and then hang the hanger up over the curtain rod or the valance—no wrinkles for the customers when the job is complete.
